EMDESK instrumental in winning the largest research excellence award in history
EMDESK was thrilled when in January 2013, the European Commission officially announced the selection of the Human Brain Project (HBP) as one of its two FET Flagship projects. Congratulating the consortium, EMDESK is proud to have contributed to the successful HBP proposal submission.
The project joins European efforts to address one of the greatest challenges of modern science: understanding the human brain. Federating over 80 European and international research institutions, the Human Brain Project is to run ten years (2013-2023) with an estimated cost of 1.19 billion euros. It is coordinated at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland by neuroscientist Henry Markram, with co-directors Karlheinz Meier of Heidelberg University, Germany and Richard Frackowiak of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne (UNIL).
The selection of the Human Brain Project as a FET Flagship was the result of over three years of preparation. With so much data to collect and hundreds of users to coordinate, the HBP consortium needed a flexible, reliable and specialised software to ensure accurate budgeting and data consolidation. After some difficulties in finding the right support, EMDESK was the tool of choice for the HBP team. Despite considerable time constraints and specific challenges due to the sheer size and complexity of the project, EMDESK managed to meet the client needs.
Proud to have facilitated the successful submission of this extraordinary research endeavour, EMDESK is happy to continue supporting the HBP project implementation.
The Human Brain Project - an EMDESK supported proposal submission:
Dr. Christian Fauteux, (Chief Administrative Officer @ HBP): "We selected EMDESK to submit the HBP proposal after facing problems with other tools. We switched to EMDESK less than 3 months before submission and were very happy that the collaboration went so smoothly. The EMDESK team met our individual requirements quickly and professionally. With budget and administrative data to be consolidated for more than 80 partners, this was quite an achievement. I believe that such a big proposal could not have been prepared without its help and we plan to use EMDESK even more now, in particular as our project management tool."
Eric Martrou, (Finance Officer/Risk & Performance Manager @ HBP ): "We thoroughly enjoy working with EMDESK. As a large project with hundreds of partners and lots of deadlines, we have a tight schedule and special requirements. This software has proven to be an invaluable tool for reporting, collaboration, and completing our daily project administration tasks. We're grateful that EMDESK has been able to provide competent support, personalized service, and custom developments. We'd recommend EMDESK to anyone looking for a comprehensive collaboration solution."
